Is Mobile Game the future of Gaming?
“Only time will tell” is the short answer for that.
I’ve been playing game for years. For me it was started with a game called Contra which i played borrowing my neighbor’s Nintendo. It was huge back then. Then naturally, after finishing one game you would like to try what other games are available to you. I remember Super Mario Bros. was being the next big thing so i played that one too.
Then PS 1 was launched. Children my age mostly played in a place called PS Rental since the console was expensive and Our parents were not rich enough to purchase one. While most of the kids played Winning Eleven which is a football game, i played a farming game called Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. I still remember my virtual wife Mary the librarian and having a lot of fun taking care of the farm.
Back then it was very limited but wide range of games are available today. PCs, Consoles, Mobile you name it. What i don’t have now is time to play them.
In 2019, League of Legend announce that they are going to bring League experience to mobile. This isn’t something new since before this, other companies has been inspired to take gaming experience which initially you can only play in PCs or Console to Mobile. Titles like Mobile Legend, PUBG Mobile, Fortnite feel more PCs/Consoles-liked compare to games like Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, or Angry bird.
What changes today?
Life style is. Mobility is one among many traits of ages that we experience today. It is kind of hard to imagine yourselves spending hours in front of the consoles or PCs on daily basis just to play game. It might not be true for veteran gamers or someone who works from home or gaming Youtubers. Unfortunately most people are not them. Most people are working a 9-hours job outside their home and for most of them sleep is essential to function normally.
As consequence mobile games are used to fill that spare time that we have between works and daily life. For example one match of DOTA2 game will cost you 40 minutes on average. it can goes to an hour if it is really tough. So you really need to focus on what is in front of you. While playing Mobile Legend in which you can say like a smaller, easier version of DOTA2 will cost you only 20 minutes on average. Meaning that you can play the game between your lunch break, or while you are on the toilet contemplating.
This makes mobile game accessible for everyone. Mobile games don’t need much time. They don’t cost a lot mostly. They are fun to play with friends too and there are plenty of games available for everyone whether you are a male, female,or even if you identify yourself as apache helicopter.
The successful launch of Nintendo Switch in 2017 further marks the idea of mobility for the future gaming. Compare to other consoles available, Nintendo Switch is consider more mobile hence allowing you to switch between home consoles or a mobile consoles easily. Even back in 2004, Sony released Playstation portable as alternative for people who want to play games “on the way” or maybe they just want to compete with Nintendo DS which is also launched the same year.
Genshin Impact as the next big thing should also come into consideration because of it’s ability to cross-platfrom. Cross-platform game is also not a new thing. Fortnite succesfully did it, Vain Glory at least manage to make it happen, and now Genshin Impact is taking the world by storm. I do believe one of the main thing that makes the game success is because mobile , PCs, and Consoles gamers can appreciate the depth of the gameplay and The developer is able to find the middle ground to satisfy each of their demand.
Since now gaming is no longer a segmented section, changes are bound to happen. It inevitably needs to adapt to overcome the increasing demand and the more increasing number of players.
